Artist discovery: Muse

Posted in Music at 8:55 pm by Calico Jack

Actually, if you live outside of the U.S. this isn't much of a discovery at all, but for some reason Brit rockers Muse never caught on with their American cousins like they should have. Think of Muse as a heavy alternative band, with layers upon layers of classically-styled sound punctuated by Wagnerian piano melodies. Frontman Matt Bellamy not only sings some of the hardest falsetto vocal lines in modern music, he also plays some wicked guitar…and he performs all of the piano compositions too. He's a modern musical prodigy, and I don't use that term lightly.

Think I'm gushing too much? Perhaps. But don't take my word for it; thanks to YouTube I have a live performance of "Butterflies and Hurricanes" for all of you. The song is six minutes long, but I think this has a good mix of everything I love about these guys; their performance is amazing. If there were only one band I could ever see live, it would be Muse. Here's why.
